388th Bomb Group Veterans' Visit May 2018
On May 27th 2018 the two last surviving veterans returned to Coney Weston. They had been active during the war on the Knettishall airbase as members of the 388th Bomb Group who were stationed there from 1943 to 1943.
They were
'Woody' Woodford, tail gunner 561 Sq Poland's crew Sep – Nov 43.
Charles 'Chuck' Neff, bombardier 563 Sq Barnes / Harken's crew Apr – Sep 44.
After a busy morning touring the 388th museum at Market Weston they were brought to the Village Hall together with supporting family members and group organisers. They were given a rapturous welcome by villagers and after introductory speeches outlining their courageous exploits during their time at Knettishall, everyone had lunch together thanks to the generosity of the Association.
